Let You In On Lennon:
Sex, drugs, fame - the prerequisites needed to be Hollywood royalty, though not
necessarily in that order. There are a very few who actually do it all in one
lifetime, and John Lennon is one of them.
Around the year 1956 he met Paul McCartney for the first time and the rest
is all history-this was the beginning of The Beatles. John wrote some eternal
classics for the group and his work is legendary. Song writing was not his only
arena for showcasing his obvious talent, he also wrote books. His first book
In His Own Write was written in 1964.
By the year 1969, some major changes took place in Lennon's life. Firstly,
this was his last association with the band that made him and secondly, he settled
into his second marriage with Yoko Uno - a star in her own right. In 1970, he
created one of the best works of his career with Imagine.
Then, on December 8th 1980, John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman. This
was nothing short of a 2000 volts shock for his fans all around the world. Suddenly,
there was a missing place in the world of music that would never complete again.
The last song that John wrote and recorded before his untimely death was "I
don't want to face it." Though he did not complete it, the song
features in the album Milk and Honey. The last song that he played was "walking
on thin ice" – this was Yoko's song. It is an important part of her
album Season of Glass, which she released shortly after his death.
These are the released works of John Lennon. However, he was constantly working
on new material. He was doing the same around the time of his murder too. He
kept making demos at his residence and two of them are "Pop Is the Name
Of The Game" and "You Saved My Soul," Both the songs have never
been officially released.
People all over the world who respected and loved Lennon did all they could
to pay a tribute to the talented musician and writer. George Harrisson dedicated
a song to Lennon in his 1981 release Somewhere in England. His friend, colleague
and confidante- Paul McCartney created the song "Here today", which
features in his 1982 release Tug of War. The song truly touches you and makes
you feel and grieve such a loss.
The real stunner came in 1990 with the exclusively syndicated series The Lost
Lennon Tapes. The whole thing featured never heard before compositions of Lennon
- some with the Beatles and some solo. The series created a fire amongst all
Lennon fans and was eagerly devoured.
A number of groups have sung of Lennon, his life, his work and his death. But
something that everyone remembered was the inspiration that he created within
other to explore their creativity. To not be afraid, to try something new. We
don't need a song to remind us what Lennon stood for. We know that all too well.
He lives on in our thoughts everytime we hear a whispered verse of his - within
our minds.
I Don't Wanna Face It
Album - Milk and honey
Words and music by John Lennon
Say you're looking for a place to go
Where nobody knows your name
You're looking for oblivion
With one Eye on the hall of fame
I don't wanna face it oh no
I don't wanna face it no no no no
Well i can dish it out
But i just can't take it
Say you're looking for some peace and love
Leader of a big old band
You wanna save humanity
But it's people that you just can't stand
I don't wanna face it oh no
I don't wanna face it no no no no
Well i can sing for my supper
But i just can't make it
Well now you're lookin' for a world of truth
Trying to find a better way
The time has come to see yourself
You always look the other way
I don't wanna face it oh no
I don't wanna face it no no no no
Well i can see the promised land
And i know i can make it!
I don't wanna face it i know
I don't wanna face it oh no
I don't wanna face it oh no
I don't wanna face it
I don't wanna face it
I just can't face it no more
Every time i look in the mirror
I don't see anybody there
